Course Description

This qualification reflects the varied roles of individuals across different industry sectors who apply a broad range of competencies using some discretion, judgment and relevant theoretical knowledge. They may provide technical advice and support to a team.

Duration

The 12 units of competency in this course will be delivered over 54 weeks, including holidays and term breaks. Students attend classes for 20 training delivery hours per week for a total of 900 hours. Successful completion of all components will enable students to gain the qualification of BSB30115 – Certificate III in Business.

Assessment Methods

Assessment comprises written assignments, tests and practical application projects. Students are required to attend tests and examinations as scheduled, with test generally scheduled during normal class time.

Assessment is structured throughout the course. If students are unable to achieve competency, additional support is provided through mentoring and access to re-assessment as outlined in our policies and procedures. Assessment requires achievement across all tasks to demonstrate competence and includes:

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification but VIMT has following enrolment requirements:

After achieving this qualification candidates may undertake BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management; BSB40515 Certificate IV in Business Administration or a range of other Certificate IV qualifications within the BSB Business Services Training Package.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN)

VIMT will conduct LLN entry test (may be exempted if already done with VIMT in a prior enrolled course). It is usual for all learners to do an LLN test to assess their Language, Literacy and Numeracy level. The aim of the LLN Test is to ensure that we confirm the learning needs of our participants prior to commencement of the training. If we can identify any participant with special needs we can then ensure that we modify our learning and assessment strategies to accommodate their needs.

National Recognition and Credit Transfer

Certificates, diplomas, and statements of attainment issued by any other Australian institute (Registered Training Organisation / TAFE) are recognised by VIMT and students will not be required to repeat these units. To apply for Credit Transfer, students must present their original document or its certified copy. The national codes and titles must match VIMT’s. There is no fee for this. If granted credits, the course duration will be shortened accordingly.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If students think they may be eligible to apply for RPL because of the previous work, study and life experiences, please contact the Institute to discuss.

Where RPL is granted, students do not have to participate in further training and assessment for skills and knowledge that they already possess. There is a fee for RPL assessment. The RPL assessment fee is AUD250 per unit of competency. Further information regarding RPL is available on request and on website as Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Procedure.

Pathways

Pathways to the qualification

There are no set requirements for previous study to enter this qualification however, preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification could include holding a BSB20115 – Certificate II in Business or other relevant qualification or holding vocational experience in a range of work environments in senior support roles but without a qualification.

Academic Pathways from the qualification

After achieving this qualification candidates may undertake BSB40215 – Certificate IV in Business, or a range of other Certificate IV qualifications such as BSB40515 – Certificate IV in Business Administration, or other Certificate IV level qualifications within the BSB Business Services Training Package.

Employment Pathways from the qualification

Job roles and titles vary across different industry sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:

  • data entry operator
  • general clerk
  • payroll officer
  • typist
  • word processing operator

Completion

Upon successful completion of this course, student will receive a nationally recognised BSB30115 – Certificate III in Business. Students who do not complete all units may be eligible for a Statement of Attainment for partial completion of the BSB30115 – Certificate III in Business.
